Running Outreach Campaigns
Updated: October 22, 2026
An outreach campaign invites a list of participants to your conversation and keeps following up until they take part. You tell the design agent who to reach and what you want, approve the plan, and the agent calls and emails each participant, checks back on its own, and tries again at better times. You can see every call, every email, and what the agent plans next.
Outreach campaigns are in Beta.
Use a campaign when you want to reach the same list over days, with follow-ups. For a single round of invitations, use Invite Participants.
Prerequisites
- A finished outline. A campaign can't start until the outline is built.
- Participants with an email address, a phone number, or both. Phone numbers need a country code, such as
+1 415 555 0100. - Consent. Starting a campaign confirms that these participants agreed to be contacted for research by your workspace.
Start a Campaign
- Open the Perspective's Design page.
- In the design chat, tell the agent who to reach and what you want. For example: "Run a campaign with these participants. We need 20 finished conversations by Friday."
- Add participants in any of these ways:
- Paste a list of names, emails, and phone numbers into the chat.
- Attach a CSV file to the chat.
- Name a participant group, or the participants of a past Perspective. See Participant Groups.
- Review the Start the campaign card:
- Who: how many participants, how they'll be reached (by phone, by email, or both), and the group they came from. Participants stopped earlier aren't contacted again.
- How: what the agent will do.
- When: the calling hours, in each participant's own time zone.
- Goal: the number of finished conversations you asked for, and by when.
- Select Start campaign, or Cancel to change something first.
A pasted list or a CSV is also saved as a new participant group, so you can reuse it later.
When your outline is ready, the design agent offers a campaign as the next step, so you can also start from its suggestion.
Import Participants from a CSV
Attach the file in the design chat and ask the agent to use it. Perspective reads the file directly, so long lists import exactly as written.
- Columns are matched by their headers, such as Name, First Name, Last Name, Email, Phone, Mobile, or Time Zone. If your headers are unusual, tell the agent which column holds what.
- Phone numbers without a country code need a country. The agent asks which country they're from before importing anything.
- Rows without a valid email or phone number are left out. The agent tells you which lines and why.
- A campaign holds up to 1,000 participants.
How a Campaign Runs
Once it starts, the agent:
- Calls and emails each participant with an invitation to your conversation.
- Checks back on its own, a few minutes to a few days later, and about a minute after a call ends or someone finishes a conversation.
- Decides who to contact next. It typically retries calls at different times of day, emails participants it can't reach by phone, and leaves alone anyone who has finished.
- Plans a next step for each participant, such as "Call back Thursday afternoon", so you can see what's coming.
Each check-in appears in the design chat.
After an answered call, Perspective reads the conversation and records how it went: the participant took part, declined, asked to be called back (and roughly when), or asked not to be contacted again.
Rules Every Campaign Follows
Whatever the agent decides, Perspective enforces these:
- Nobody is contacted unless the campaign is running.
- A stopped participant is never contacted again. Anyone who asks on a call not to be contacted is stopped automatically.
- A participant gets one call at a time.
- Calls go out only within the campaign's calling hours, in each participant's own time zone. The default is 8 AM to 9 PM every day. Participants without a time zone use the campaign's.
To change the calling hours, ask the agent, for example "Only call on weekdays, 9 AM to 6 PM". Before setting hours earlier than 8 AM, later than 9 PM, or on weekends, the agent tells you that fewer people pick up then and that many places limit when calls are allowed.
Calls that reach someone use credits, like other phone conversations. See Billing.
Track a Campaign
Ask the agent "How is the campaign going?" for a status card in the chat: progress toward your goal, how many participants are in each state, and the next planned steps.
For the full picture, open the Campaign view. Select Open campaign on the status card or on the Overview tab, or open the right-side panel and choose Campaign under Share.
The Campaign view shows:
- Progress toward your goal, and where the campaign stands, such as when the first calls go out.
- Plan: the calling hours and the instructions you gave. Select Change to put a request in the chat box.
- From: links to the participant groups the campaign drew from.
- Participants, filterable by state, with each one's Status, Latest activity, and Next step. Select a row to see every call and email, with View conversation for each conversation they had.
Participant statuses:
The Overview tab of the Perspective's results also shows a campaign row with its progress and next step.
Pause, Resume, or Change a Campaign
- Pause or resume: select Pause or Resume at the top of the Campaign view, or ask the agent. A paused campaign contacts nobody.
- Stop: ask the agent to stop the campaign. It can be started again later.
- Add participants: paste, attach, or name them in the chat. Once a campaign has started, you approve additions on an Add participants to the campaign card.
- Stop one participant: ask the agent, for example "Don't contact Jaya again".
- Change instructions, the goal, or calling hours: ask the agent in the chat.
Run Campaigns from an AI Assistant
Assistants connected through the Perspective MCP server, such as Claude, can set up and run the same campaigns with the campaign_get, campaign_manage, and participant_search tools. When an assistant runs the campaign, it decides who to contact and when, and nothing happens until it checks back. The same rules apply, and the team follows the campaign in the Campaign view.
Troubleshooting
The campaign doesn't start: Check that the outline is finished and the campaign has at least one participant.
The agent asks which country phone numbers are from: Some numbers were written without a country code. Answer with the country, or add country codes to the list.
A participant hasn't been called: Check the calling hours and the participant's time zone in the Campaign view. Calls wait until the participant's local calling hours.
Calls or emails keep failing: The agent usually pauses the campaign and says why in the chat. Check the numbers and email addresses, then ask it to resume.
I don't see Campaign in the side panel: It appears once the Perspective has a campaign. Ask the agent to set one up.
