# Phone Number

Open the workspace switcher in the sidebar, choose **Manage workspace**, then select **Phone Number** to see the number participants see when the AI agent calls them.

By default, calls come from a number Perspective provides. Connect your own Twilio account to call participants from your own numbers instead.

## What You Can Do

- **Call from your own number.** Participants see your caller ID instead of Perspective's.
- **Bill calls to your Twilio account.** Calls run on your Twilio account and show up in your Twilio usage.
- **Choose which numbers to call from.** Pick one or more numbers on the account. With numbers in more than one country, each participant gets a call from your number in their country when you have one.
- **Keep the connection working.** Update the Auth Token after you rotate it in Twilio, or disconnect to go back to Perspective's number.

## Requirements

- Owner or Admin access to the Perspective workspace. Members can view the Phone Number page but can't change it.
- A Twilio account upgraded from trial. Trial accounts can only call numbers verified in Twilio, so Perspective doesn't accept them.
- At least one number on that account that can make voice calls.
- The account's **Account SID** and **Auth Token**. See [Find Your Account SID and Auth Token](#find-your-account-sid-and-auth-token).

## Find Your Account SID and Auth Token

1. Sign in to the [Twilio Console](https://console.twilio.com/).
2. On the home page, scroll down to the **Account Info** section.
3. Copy the **Account SID** and the **Auth Token** from there.

## Connect Your Twilio Account

1. Open the workspace switcher in the sidebar, choose **Manage workspace**, and select **Phone Number**.
2. Click **Connect Twilio**.
3. Paste the **Account SID** and **Auth Token**, then click **Continue**. Perspective checks them with Twilio before it saves anything.
4. Select the numbers to call from, then click **Connect**.

The Phone Number page then shows your number and **Connected to your Twilio account**. New calls use it right away.

A Twilio account can be connected to one Perspective workspace at a time.

## Show as Caller Verified

Register your numbers for SHAKEN/STIR in the Twilio Console under **Account** > **Trust Hub**. With SHAKEN/STIR, participants see **Caller Verified** on their screen instead of **Spam Likely**.

Twilio's [step-by-step guide](https://www.twilio.com/docs/voice/trusted-calling-with-shakenstir/shakenstir-onboarding/shakenstir-onboarding-in-the-twilio-console) walks through it. Approval takes a couple of days, so start it as soon as you connect your account.

## Change Your Calling Numbers

Click **Change numbers**, select the numbers to call from, and click **Save**. The list comes from Twilio each time you open it, so numbers you add in Twilio after connecting show up there. Keep at least one number selected.

## Update the Auth Token

If you rotate the Auth Token in Twilio, Perspective can't place calls with the old one. Click **Update auth token**, paste the new token, and click **Save token**.

If Twilio rejects the saved token during a call, Perspective pauses calling and the Phone Number page shows **Needs attention**. Update the token to resume calls.

## Data Shared With Twilio

| Data | Direction | Details |
|------|-----------|---------|
| Account details | Twilio to Perspective | The account name and status, checked when you connect and when you update the token. |
| Phone numbers | Twilio to Perspective | The numbers on the account, and whether each one can make voice calls. |
| Calls | Perspective to Twilio | Each call the AI agent places, from the number you chose to the participant's number. |
| Call audio | Both | The conversation audio, streamed between Twilio and Perspective during the call. |
| Call status | Twilio to Perspective | Updates on each call, such as ringing, answered, and completed. |

Perspective stores the Auth Token encrypted and uses it only to place calls and read their status. It doesn't change your numbers' settings in Twilio, so calls people make to your numbers keep working the way they do now.

## Disconnect Twilio

Click **Disconnect** on the Phone Number page and confirm. Calls go back to Perspective's number right away. Perspective deletes the saved Auth Token and removes your numbers from the workspace. Your Twilio account and numbers stay as they are.

## Troubleshooting

- **Perspective reports that Twilio didn't accept the credentials.** Copy the Account SID and Auth Token from the **Account Info** section of the [Twilio Console](https://console.twilio.com/) again. The Account SID starts with `AC`.
- **Perspective reports a trial account.** Upgrade the account in Twilio, then connect again.
- **Perspective reports the account is connected to another workspace.** Disconnect it in that workspace first.
- **Participants see Spam Likely when the AI agent calls.** Register your numbers for SHAKEN/STIR. See [Show as Caller Verified](#show-as-caller-verified).
- **A number is greyed out.** It can't make voice calls, or another Perspective workspace uses it.
- **A number can't be unticked.** It answers incoming calls for a conversation. Contact support to move it first.
- **The page says calling is temporarily unavailable.** Perspective support paused the connection. Contact support to turn it back on.
